About
Emily Stone is director of science and research communications on the storytelling and content strategy team, where she writes and shares stories about UIC’s cutting-edge research.
Emily joined UIC in 2023. Previously, she was associate director and senior editor at Kellogg Insight, the faculty thought leadership magazine at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. In addition to freelance writing for local and national publications, Emily’s science communications career includes two summers at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, working for the National Science Foundation’s newspaper, The Antarctic Sun. She also covered local news and crime for the Burlington Free Press in Vermont, and she has taught journalism at Columbia College Chicago.
Emily has master’s degrees from Northwestern in communications and in journalism and a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College.
Fun fact: Emily is a fourth-generation Chicagoan.
