About
Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez is associate vice chancellor for university communications, leading a team of media relations, communications and public relations professionals who amplify and protect the university's reputation, reach and visibility locally and nationally.
Sherri brings more than 20 years of experience managing communications strategy for major university initiatives, including UIC’s COVID-19 response, the acquisition of John Marshall Law School (now UIC Law), and the opening of the Academic and Residential Complex and Engineering Innovation Building. As the university's primary spokesperson, Sherri leads universitywide communications strategy, preparedness and management for emergency and crisis events.
Before joining UIC, Sherri held positions in public relations, media relations and marketing in the higher education and health care sectors. She has a bachelor's in journalism from Michigan State University.
