About
Rob Mitchum is director of research and science communications, with a joint role in Strategic Marketing and Communications and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Rob helps elevate and amplify the work of UIC faculty, staff and student researchers across campus by writing stories that capture the meaning and impact of their research.
Rob joined UIC in April 2023. He worked previously at the University of Chicago, where he served in communications roles covering data science, computer science and biomedical sciences. He received his PhD in neurobiology from the University of Chicago in 2007 and spent two years as a journalist with the Chicago Tribune.
Fun fact: Rob also writes about music for publications including Pitchfork, Uncut, Paste, Esquire, Deadspin and Relix, and has a podcast about the Grateful Dead.
