About
Tess Joosse is associate director of research and science communication on the Storytelling and Content Strategy Team. She writes stories and other content to highlight and amplify the impactful research being done at UIC's 16 colleges and schools.
Before joining UIC in 2025, Tess was an editor and writer with the Alliance of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science Societies. Her writing has appeared in outlets including Science and Scientific American, and she has worked as a science writer for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and as a laboratory researcher at the University of Chicago. She has a master's degree in science communication from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a bachelor's degree in biology from Oberlin College.
Fun fact: Tess enjoys training for and running marathons.
